Find Discount Wedding Dresses

Your big day is quickly approaching and you are frantically searching for the perfect discount wedding dress. What should you do and where do you even start? There are many ways to shop for formal wear, and if you are a saavy shopper, you will take advantage of them all! As a wedding planner, here are some of my best tips for finding the perfect discount wedding dress for your special day.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First, do some research. Spend an hour or two searching the internet to get a feel for the styles that most interest you. There are thousands of online wedding boutiques that have everything from baby formal wear to plus-size gowns. If you are looking for something special in a plus-size fashion or maternity wear, research the names of stores that carry the exact type of gown you will need. As you surf the net, be sure to write down the best deals that you find, so you will know which retailers are setting their prices fairly. Always comparison shop when you are looking for discount designer wedding dresses.

  2. Step 2

After you have a handle on what you are looking for, it's time to go shopping. While you may find great prices by buying online or in department stores, I would highly recommend finding a full-service formalwear store. When you shop in a boutique that specializes in formalwear, they will be experts on how to measure you, fit you, and altar gowns and tuxes to the point of perfection. The best part is that you can do all the shopping for your big event in one place. Browse through several full-service stores and make sure you look at some big chains such as David's Bridal or BeDazzled Bride. These stores often have incredibly low prices on well-made formalwear. Once you pick the store that you like best, make an appointment for a one-on-one consultation. Before you try anything on, ask for a discount. Most of these stores will make terrific arrangements for big events, such as 15% off tuxes, bridesmaid dresses, shoes, undergarments, alterations, and flowergirl dresses if you first buy your wedding gown at their store. After you find out their policy, it is time to hit the dressing room.

  3. Step 3

When you start trying on discount designer wedding dresses, never set your mind on one style. Even though you may feel sure that a Cinderella-style ball gown would be just what you were looking for, you may be shocked at how a fitted sheath dress flatters your figure. If you are going to dish out the money for a once-in-a-lifetime day, make sure you try on all of your options. When you are pulling gowns to try on, do not overlook the sizes that would be too small or too big. While many stores do not have a large onsight collection of plus-size gowns, they can special order almost any gown in the size you need, tailored to your measurements. You only need to be able to get the gown over your head to see if you like the style. If it doesn't come close to zipping, that's okay. You can order it in the appropriate size once you've made your final decision. Don't sacrifice a design you love because of the store's in stock sizes. Request a special order with a shipping discount, of course.

  4. Step 4

Lastly, enjoy your hunt for the perfect designer wedding dress. Half of the fun of formal events, whether it be prom, wedding, or a high school reunion, comes in the form of getting ready. Use a formal occasion as an excuse to pamper yourself. You will look your best if you feel your best. So enjoy getting all dressed up and don't settle for less than the look of your dreams!

Tips & Warnings
  • Many designers offer end-of-season discounts. Call around and ask when these special sales occur so you can plan your shopping trips around them! You will find the biggest discount if you try on wedding gowns during these exclusive sales.
