Step 1
First of all, you need to know what superstition is in order to avoid it. Superstition is an unjustified fear or false warning. In the old days they used to consider walking under a ladder bad luck or opening an umbrella in doors bad luck. How could these things be bad luck?
-
Step 2
Know exactly what superstition is in order to avoid it. Superstition is also believing in demon possession and curses. These are both often used as excuses to explain away mental illness or traumatic events such as natural disasters and other "bad luck".
-
Step 3
Just forget bad luck period. Rephrase this bad luck business and call it "chance" or life circumstance.
-
Step 4
Look at the similiarities between superstition and OCD. Tying and untying shoes or repeatedly washing your hands when they're not dirty
are both born out of anxiety and yes superstition is also born out of anxiety. -
Step 5
Be rational. Learn to reason and let people around you know that you are not interested in following superstition.
-
Step 6
Be open minded to a point. Is it possible your grandmother predicted the death of John F. Kennedy? It's clear that life on planet earth and beyond still holds many mysteries and we should respect the unkbown. However, at the same time that we should be open minded enough to appreciate that we don't know it all, it's also a good idea not to get too carried away with the supernatural. Just because one thing is possible does not mean that another is also possible. You have to draw the line somewhere.
-
Step 7
Realize there are some mysteries that will be harder to define than others. I can tell you with full certainty that what many people think of as ufo sightings are actually the government experimenting with oh whatever they are experimenting with in New Mexico and probably other states as well. However, I can not possibly account for all ufo sightings.
-
Step 8
Never stop believing in miracles, but believe in miracles rather than superstition. Because good things do happen.
