The Hello Kitty rewards credit card is a reward in itself for the die-hard Hello Kitty fan. The famous feline is prominently displayed on the card, and points accumulated for using the card can translate into Hello Kitty swag. You must be at least 21 years of age to apply for the card, unless you can furnish a cosigner or show proof of independent income.
Rewards and Benefits
One the advantages of having a Hello Kitty credit card is the zero annual fee. You earn one point per dollar on purchases, and double that if you buy directly from Hello Kitty's Sanrio website. You also net a $50 discount for every 5,000 points earned, which you can redeem on the Sanrio website. You get the same protections and benefits as any other Visa Platinum card, including car rental, zero fraud liability and travel assistance insurance. You also get 24/7 customer service support.
Restrictions, Rates, Charges and Fees
Hello Kitty card rewards are subject to its rewards program rules. Points expire after five years, but you can get a free $50 gift card for every 5,000 points accumulated. As of 2014, the annual percentage rate was 13.99 to 17.99 percent based on your credit rating and the existing Prime Rate. APR for cash advances is 24.99 percent. The card also comes with transaction and penalty fees, such as 2 percent foreign transaction fees and late charges of up to $35.
Ways to Apply
The card is issued by UMB Bank, which operates a co-branded website where you can apply for the card. When you apply on UMB's Cardpartner website, you also select an image for your card. You fill out the information requested on the form and follow the prompts to complete the application. Alternately, you can call a toll-free number to complete the transaction, or request a paper application that can be mailed to Card Services in Kansas City, Missouri.
UMB will ask you for your contact and financial information. You must tell them your length of employment, if you rent or own your residence, your monthly housing payment, and your annual gross income. It does not specify any minimum income, but your application is subject to UMB's approval. You must also agree to its terms and conditions before hitting the "Submit" button.
