Are you having trouble getting CD's to read in your CD-Rom Drive? Does it take a long time to read the disc or shoot an error stating that there isn't a disc in the drive? Chances are, your lens is dirty! It can lead to errors, disc reading/writing failure, or stop working all together! Follow these steps to save your CD-Rom drive before it's too late!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • CD-Rom Drive
  • Compressed Air
  • Len's cleaning kit (Ex. Memorex CD/DVD Laser Len's cleaner)
  • Cotton Swab
  1. Step 1
    Make sure your disc is clean!

    CHECK YOUR DISC'S: Make sure your disc's are clean, unscratched, and you're loading it properly into the CD-Rom drive.

  2. Step 2
    Blow it free of dirt!

    USE COMPRESSED AIR: Have the computer case and CD tray open. Carefully blow compressed air in through the front of the CD tray opening. Do not blow with too high of a pressure as this may damage sensitive components.

  3. Step 3
    Lens cleaner kit
     
    Lens cleaner kit

    USE A LENS CLEANER KIT: Always use a laser lens cleaner to clean the drive lens. Memorex CD/DVD Laser Lens Cleaner is highly recommended, easy to use, and affordable.

  4. Step 4
    Insert disc and press play!
     
    Insert disc and press play!

    INSERT THE LASER LENS CLEANER DISC: Insert the disc into your CD-Rom drive and let it play for 2-3 minutes. After you're done, store it in the case to prevent brush contamination.

  5. Step 5
    Use a cotton swab!

    COTTON SWAB: If you've used the lens cleaner kit and your drive is still creating a problem then open it and clean the lens with a cotton swab.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the CD tray is closed and your computer is unplugged, you may need to open it using a paper clip. Press the paperclip into the tiny hole by the CD tray.
