Things You'll Need:
- liquid brush killer
- chemical sprayer
- chemical resistant gloves
-
Step 1
Locate the kudzu in your yard. If you have vines growing up in trees, over houses, cars, pets, or areas you can not reach, cut them near the ground. It is helpful to try to remove as much as you can, but the vines you cut will die on their own.
-
Step 2
Put on your chemical resistant gloves.
-
Step 3
Mix a good quality brush killer (I use Ortho and have had great success) into your chemical sprayer. Dilute it according to the manufacturer, trying to make it stronger won't help, it just creates hazardous run off.
-
Step 4
Spray every leaf of the kudzuu you can find with the brush killer.
-
Step 5
Wait for the specified number of days. I usually see the leaves turn yellow after a day or so. Re-spray any kudzu that is still green.
-
Step 6
Now the hard part. Keep checking for up to 2 weeks after you spray for any new leaves. Do not assume the kudzu has not seeded or spread. In fact go ahead and assume it has. Spray kudzu when it is small before it has a chance to seed. This is the key to removing it completely.
