Step 1
Get all the chocolate you binge on out of the house. You may think, “Oh, I can control myself with this chocolate. I won’t ever binge on chocolate again. I’ll be good from now on. This chocolate doesn’t need to go.” Just stop. Stop fooling yourself. Stop playing games. If you’ve binged regularly on this chocolate in the past, you will binge again.
-
Step 2
Keep the chocolate you don’t binge on. Do not try to totally stop eating chocolate. I know it feels powerful to say, “I will never eat chocolate again,” but it’s not a realistic goal. Thinking that you can go forever without eating chocolate will only set you up for a huge chocolate binge. Bottom line: Do not deprive yourself of all chocolate, just the chocolate you binge on.
-
Step 3
If your chocolate binge eating is happening too often, you may find that you need to throw out all the chocolate in your house. You’ll need to shop for healthy chocolate treats that will satisfy your chocolate cravings. One treat I personally recommend are chocolate meringues. These melt-in-your-mouth cookies are very low calorie and have no fat, yet still taste amazing! I buy the mini chocolate meringues from Trader Joe’s. These all natural cookies are less than 10 calories each (and there’s even a little fiber and protein included).
-
Step 4
If your chocolate binge eating feels like it is beyond your control, you may have a true binge eating disorder. Schedule an appointment with your primary doctor to discuss an eating disorder treatment for your binge eating problem.

Step 5
If you'd like more examples of healthy chocolate treats to help curb binge eating, see the Resources area.

on 11/3/2008 I binged the entire time I was handing out candy, hersey bars, melt in your mouth, Oh so good, I was so bad! Freezing didn't work, I packed it all up and removed from the house, off to the homeless shelter...I think I'm safe now! Great article!

on 11/1/2008 You WOULD write this right at Halloween, when I'm wallowing in several tons of candy bars. But your points are all good ones. Thanks for the reminders. A definite 5*****

on 10/31/2008 I don't eat as much chocolate as I used to, but I confess; I'm still a chocoholic. It's gonna be a challenge getting the chocolate out of my house, but it's worth a try. 5 stars*****
