90% or higher lean beef may be your healthiest option, but it can be very unhealthy for your wallet. Try the following to save, and still eat healthfully.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Purchase 80% lean ground beef. This item is frequently on sale, so look for it at a good price, and stock up.

  2. Step 2

Choose a recipe that requires you to brown the beef before adding it to other ingredients. Good choices are pasta fagioli soup, tacos, sloppy joes and chili.

  3. Step 3

Brown beef. After cooking, put into a colander in the sink. Thoroughly rinse the beef in warm water. This will rinse off much of the fat, leaving a very lean portion of ground beef.

  4. Step 4

Add to your recipe, and enjoy!
