Things You'll Need:
- Patience

Step 1
THE FIRST STEP. If you get a parking ticket, make sure every single piece of data on the ticket is correct, including but not limited to: Day, Date, Time, Street, License Plate, Automobile Description, Weather and Infraction.
-
Step 2
IMPROPER DATA. If the parking ticket says “Expired Meter” and there are no meters on the street, you’re out of the ticket. Elect to a “review” to the ticket and follow the steps of instructions that tell you to fight the ticket. Make sure you keep accurate data for everything that happened.
-
Step 3
FAULTY METERS. Most people don’t know the parking meters have to be calibrated – that’s the law! The purpose of that of course is to make sure that if you’re paying for twenty minutes, that you’re actually getting twenty minutes. When you show up to contest your parking ticket, make sure you demand the records for calibration. If they don’t have them, the ball is in your court.
-
Step 4
OTHER INFRACTIONS. By law, if you receive a parking ticket, a sign MUST exist that warns of the impending ticket. For example: If you’re not allowed to park on a street after 4 pm or you will be towed, there MUST be a sign stating as such. The sign must be officially issued by the city and it MUST have the actual “code” number (i.e. 6.1.03 etc). If there is no sign, the ticket won’t stick in court. Another one of my favorites, getting a ticket for parking too close to a fire hydrant, or other object, within designated allowance. The curb must be painted showing that you’re too close.

Step 5
BECOME AN EXPERT. Whatever your ticket may be, take the time to look up the details of the offense. All major cities have an official website. Check to see what the city’s rules, guidelines and statues for tickets are. Become an expert in the ticket you received. If the ticket was issued improperly, unethically or unlawfully; you’ve got yourself a strong case.
