Instructions

    • 1

Lay two pieces of green felt or fleece out on a flat surface. Lay the two pieces of top of each other so the edges match perfectly. Take a pencil and ruler and draw a Christmas tree shape on the felt. This is easiest if you draw a large triangle with a tip at the top and two even sides coming down to a flat bottom surface. The size tree you make is up to you.

    • 2

Cut out the triangle by holding both pieces of fabric together at the same time and cutting both together. Starting at the top of the triangle make even cuts on either side of the triangle with each lower level cut increasing slightly in length. So if the top layer is cut at 1/2 inch, the next one down might be 3/4 of an inch, the next 1 inch, and so on. Make sure the cuts are spaced evenly as they descend.

    • 3

Separate the two pieces of fabric. Decorate the front side of each piece as you would a Christmas tree. Use puffy paint, sew on yellow felt stars and buttons, or use other elements as desired. Cover both sides of the tree (the right side of each piece).

    • 4

Lay the two pieces of fabric back on top of each other, the decorative sides on the outside or facing outward. Tie the cut sections in knots, by taking the top and bottom sections of the same cut piece and tying each into a double knot. Continue all the way down both sides until you reach the bottom of the tree section.

    • 5

Fill the inside of the tree with cotton stuffing. Fill to your desired plumpness. Then tie the cut sections on the bottom of the tree to secure.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't pull the ties too tightly, as it will stretch out the fabric and deform your tree.
