The horse racing dice game uses a simple board with a grid that makes a racetrack for 11 horses. You can make your horse racing game by using a computer drawing program and printing it out or by hand using a marker and a ruler. In addition to the board, the game requires horse cards to deal to all the players. If you're working on a computer, you may want to use blank business card stock to make the cards since these are easy to print. If you're working by hand, 3 x 5 index cards can be easier to use. You can also make your own pretend money for players to bet on the horses or use play money from another game.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Card stock for game board 50 blank cards Horse pictures or stickers (optional) 11 horse tokens Play money or green paper Scissors Computer and printer (optional) Markers and a ruler (optional) Dice (two)
  1. Step 1

Place the card stock with the long edge facing toward you, or set your drawing program page setup to landscape orientation.

  2. Step 2

Draw 11 squares across the bottom of the game board, and number them from 2 to 12. Draw two squares above numbers 2 and 12, three squares above 3 and 11, four squares above 4 and 10, five squares above 5 and 9, six squares above 6 and 8, and seven squares above number 7.

  3. Step 3

Save and print the game board if you're working on the computer.

  4. Step 4

Make a card for each of the 11 horses. Put a number from 2 to 12 on each horse card, and give the horses names. You may also want to add a stock photo or clip art of a horse to each card if you're working on the computer or use horse stickers if you're making the cards by hand.

  5. Step 5

Print four copies of each horse card or make additional copies of each card by hand.

  6. Step 6

Use play money from another game such as Monopoly or make your own by printing or writing numbers on pieces of green paper. You may want to use large amounts, such as $10,000 to $1 million, or small amounts such as $1 to $10. Cut the paper apart into bills.

  7. Step 7

Make 11 horse tokens. You can use plastic tokens from another game, or cut some of the leftover blank cards into pieces small enough to fit on the game board grid. Number the card stock tokens from 2 to 12.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have four players or fewer, you may want to make fewer horse cards or leave some of them out of the deck while playing.
