The latest release of Apple's Mac OS X operating system, also known as Leopard, comes with an updated version of the iChat messaging software. Users can connect to either their AOL Instant Messaging or MobileMe chat accounts with iChat. After setting up an account, users can add any new buddies who have an AIM or MobileMe username. This article explains how to add a new messaging buddy through the main iChat window.

• Mac running OS X 10.5 or later, iChat software

Instructions

1. Open the iChat program by clicking on the icon in the dock.

2. Click on the plus sign in the lower-left corner of the main iChat buddy list window.

3. Select "Add Buddy" from the drop-down menu.

4. Enter the buddy's username in the "Account Name" field and select the user's network, either AIM or MobileMe, from the drop-down menu.

5. Select a buddy group to add the new user to, and then click "Add" to place the new buddy into the designated group on your buddy list.
