Marriage is something that we all have to work at. For a healthy marriage, good communication is the key, but for some people, communication will come easier than for others. But it is never too late to start working on your communication.

From Quick Guide: Family Life
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

De-stress each other by turning off the TV. You will not believe how much time you have to talk if you turn off the TV. Sit in the same room where your TV is located. Make it comfortable, quiet or with light music. Take this time to lighten the mood and help each other get rid of stress.

  2. Step 2

Communicate often. Talk during house work. Another good time to talk is during house work time or home maintenance time. Help each other out. The important thing is that you talk, even about little things.

  3. Step 3

Get rid of secrets. There is always a time during a marriage where you have the choice to talk about circumstances or to keep them to yourself. Even if these secrets are small, this can be fatal to a marriage. A good part of communication is to let your partner know when something is bothering you.

  4. Step 4

Listen. When your partner wants to talk to you, it is important to stop what you are doing to listen. It is not good to halfway listen. Sincerely make time for each other.

  5. Step 5

Choose a good time for serious conversation. If there is something on your mind, think about the subject that you plan to talk about in advance. Talking may not be the problem, but timing can be everything. This is especially important for serious conversations.

Tips & Warnings
  • Talking about everything can make getting through the tough times easier.
