1. Drink water. Water is one of the best defenses the body has against the formation of kidney stones. Not only does it cleanse and detoxify the body of the impurities that cause the formation of kidney stones, water also has nothing in it that will contribute to the formation of new kidney stones.

2. Try apple cider vinegar. This age-old remedy is used as a treatment for many different ailments, kidney stones among them. Apple cider vinegar works wonders when it comes to softening and dissolving kidney stones, making them easier to pass. A tablespoon a day will keep the pain away.

3. Combine basil and honey. Combine 1 tsp. of basil with 1 tsp. of honey and swallow the mixture. Kidney stones will be minimized and expelled easier out of the urinary tract. This concoction should be taken once or twice a day.

4. Eat celery. Celery may prevent the formation of kidney stones.

5. Drink a half cup of pure lemon juice daily. This will protect against calcium stores in the body. If there are no calcium stores, then there can be no formation of calcium stones, which is one type of stone that causes sufferers so much grief.

6. Brew some green tea. The antioxidants in green tea inhibit the formation of kidney stones, never giving them the chance to form at all. Be careful, though, as tea is generally not recommended for those who suffer from kidney stones due to the high levels of oxolate it contains. Oxolate is the number one contributor of kidney stones, but green tea is safer than the black variety, and its benefits outweigh the slight risk.
