Attend a paramedic training school or program. The first step to becoming an Emergency Medical Responder, as it is called in British Columbia, is to complete the basic training requirements. The British Columbia Institute of Justice has a Paramedic Academy that offers training to meet basic requirements to work for the BCAS.

Step 2
Choose a specialty to advance your career. There are several levels of EMT training from which a paramedic may choose. In addition to your basic paramedic training, you can also receive training to act as a primary care paramedic or an advanced care paramedic or emergency responder.
-
Step 3

-
Step 4
Request proof from any other province in which you have been registered as an Emergency Medical Technician. If you have ever been registered as an EMT in another province, country, or state, verification of that registration must be included in your application.
-
Step 5
Sign an affidavit attesting that all information included in your application is true and complete before submitting application. The application must be notarized with a stamp or seal visible on each section of the application.
-
Step 6
Provide references to prove good character and competence to practice paramedicine. The Health Emergency Act dictates that all EMTs must prove they are of good character through personal references and a criminal background check. Competence to practice can be illustrated by your employment record, employment references and education.
