1
Consider increasing your fiber intake. Mild cases of constipation can often be treated by increasing your fiber intake. This can be accomplished by eating more fruits and vegetables and adding a high fiber cereal to your daily routine.
-
2
Create an exercise routine. For many people adding an exercise routine can break the cycle of constipation. Try to exercise for 30 to 60 minutes 3 to 5 times weekly to prevent constipation.

Don't suppress the urge to have a bowel movement. Although there are less desirable times to relieve yourself, don't suppress the urge. This can be a contributing factor to constipation.
-
4
Seek medication. If natural remedies aren't curing your health issue contact your doctor to discuss medication options. Although curing constipation naturally is ideal, sometimes medication is needed.
-
5
Ask about testing for medical issues. Chronic constipation can be a sign of a more serious health concern. Discuss the frequency of your health issue with the doctor and ask about additional testing options.

Tips & Warnings
Report blood or unusual color to your doctor. Pay attention to the color of your bowel movements. If you observe blood or a strange color discuss these symptoms with you doctor immediately.
Seek a second opinion. If you have chronic constipation and your doctor isn't encouraging additional testing, you may want to seek a second opinion. Although often times, there may not be an underlying cause, it's wise to investigate the possibility.
