1
Cruise. The more even your speed, the more efficient your gas consumption will become. Track your speed and try to keep it as even as possible, using the highway whenever possible. Use cruise control when possible, and otherwise try to avoid harsh stops and fast stops; these rack up gas consumption dramatically.

2
Roll up the windows. Keeping the car as streamlined and aerodynamic as possible will lessen the force it needs to move forward. Opening the windows cuts into the streamlined flow of air around the car.

3
Turn off the AC. Air conditioning uses an inordinate amount of additional gas. The same does not apply to heat, however, which redirects heated air from the engine's heat.

4
Keep calm. Studies show that when drivers are agitated, like being enraged or needing to go the bathroom, their gas consumption ups dramatically. You are less likely to keep your car at an even pace and avoid harsh stops and fast starts which, as mentioned before, significantly increase gas consumption. Stay calm and level headed to avoid paying the price at the pump.
