Things You'll Need:
- Small sewing kit Measuring tape Pins
-
Step 1
Have a friend or relative who is close your height and shape put on your wedding dress. Have her stand on a table or stool so you can easily see where the wedding dress will be hemmed. Your friend must be willing to stand in this position until the hemming is finished.
-
Step 2
Use the measuring tape to determine where the hem line will be on your wedding dress. Pin the bottom of the wedding dress in this position by folding the cloth underneath the dress. Go around the whole area of the wedding dress bottom and pin into position.
-
Step 3
Find the thread in your small sewing kit that matches as close as possible to the color of your wedding dress. Thread your correct-colored thread through the needle you will be using to hem your wedding dress.
-
Step 4
Start at the back of the wedding dress and make a straight stitch. Start from underneath so that the knotted thread will not show through. Pull through the material and make straight 1/8-inch stitches around the new hem of the wedding dress. Go all the way around the wedding dress until you get to where you started.
-
Step 5
Remove all pins from the wedding dress hem. Your wedding dress should now be hemmed at the height you want it to be. If you are worried that you are going to hem too much, then start with a smaller hem line that can always be moved up if the need arises.
