Colorful glass marbles have provided several generations with lots of fun. Among the dozens of games played with marbles, a current new favorite is Toxic Waste Marbles, a game with challenging rules. The basic idea of this two-player game is to collect as many marbles as you can, executing trades along the way to accumulate favorites, and to avoid those marbles designated as "toxic waste."

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Masking tape 60 marbles (30 supplied by each player) in any color but orange 2 large shooters (one brought by each player) 3 small orange marbles One large marble, which will be known as the Picker One extra large marble (or metal ball), which will be known as the Biggie
  1. Step 1

Lay down a 20-inch square of masking tape on a carpet to make the marble ring.

  2. Step 2

Put all the marbles in the square. The three orange Toxic Waste marbles, the Picker and the Biggie should all be placed near the middle. All of the other marbles will be arranged in a circular fashion around the middle. Layering of marbles is not permitted. To make you and your opponent's favorite marbles harder to get, lay them around the toxic wastes, closer to the middle.

  3. Step 3

Take turns using your shooter and shooting it into the board from outside the ring with a thumb-and-finger flick. You can claim any marbles that fly outside the ring and are not touching the tape. Continue shooting until you miss. Then your opponent has a turn.

  4. Step 4

Avoid hitting the orange toxic waste marbles; a player may keep all the marbles that fly out on his opponent's turn if his opponent's shooter touches them. That player must also allow you to pick one of the marbles from his pile to put back in the ring one millimeter from the Toxic Waste that he hit. That player's turn then ends. If on your turn, the Toxic Waste goes completely out of the ring, then all of the other marbles you hit out on that turn go back, your turn ends and your opponent gets to pick one of the marbles from your pile to go back with the Toxic Waste in the middle of the board. A Toxic Waste marble cannot be removed from the board.

  5. Step 5

Continue your turn if you hit out the Picker. You get to keep it and you also get to grab one marble to keep from the ring. If you hit the Biggie out, and all of the other marbles except for the orange Toxic Wastes, you get to keep it. You also get to grab five marbles from your opponent's pile. If the Biggie is hit out when there are other marbles remaining, it gets put back in the middle.

  6. Step 6

End the game when all the marbles with the exception of the toxic waste marbles have been shot out of the ring. The player with the most marbles is the winner. The larger marbles count double.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can physically move all around the ring and shoot with whatever hand you want. Keep your hand on the ground when shooting and aim straight.
