How to Change a Blinker Light

Changing a blinker light that has burned out on your car probably is not as complicated as you think. At most, it should take three steps. Unless the actual bulb has melted into the socket, it should go very smoothly.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the lens for the blinker. If there is no lens to remove, as in some front blinkers, open the hood and look behind the blinker location. There will be a socket for the light to go in.

    • 2

Remove the bulb by pressing down on it slightly, and turning counter-clockwise until it comes loose from the housing. This is the part that is apt to be problematic, especially if the bulb has "burned" itself into the socket or otherwise melted something, causing it to hold fast. Should this happen, disconnect the battery, and break the glass on the bulb. Then, with needle-nose pliers, turn the bottom housing of the bulb counter-clockwise until it comes loose.

Install the new blinker bulb in the reverse order of removal, and replace the blinker lens, if applicable. Check blinker to ensure it works.
