Donating to Public Blood Cord Banking in Virginia

Do you want to donate your baby's cord blood to a public cord blood bank but do not know how? In most cases, there is a cord blood bank in an area near you for easy donation. But before making the trip, it is important to know how useful your donation will be. Currently 6,000 patients and family members all around the world are searching the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) Registry to find matching bone marrow or cord blood to sustain life through and beyond a serious, life-threatening illness. This why the donation process is so important and one of the easiest ways to save a life!

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Donate your baby's cord blood through Cryobanks International. Call (800) 869-8608 for donation locations and eligibility requirements. Visit the Cryobanks International website.

  2. Step 2

    Check the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) Registry. Check for cord blood banks that are registered and accept public cord blood donations.

  3. Step 3

    Begin the donation process. Confirm that the selected hospital is registered and will cover the cost to collect, test and store the cord blood. If the hospital does not arrange for public blood cord donations, contact the NMDP for a list of hospitals in your area.
