Albany is the capital of the state of New York, and is the second oldest city in the state in terms of its incorporation date of 1686. It is the fourth oldest city in the United States, as well as the second oldest state capital. Henry Hudson was one of the earlier explorers to come to Albany.

Start out by visiting Albany from the water. Dutch Apple River Cruises give visitors a view from the Hudson River, and feature lunch and dinner options as well. Follow the tour with a quiet visit to the 1848 Shaker Meeting House, where guests can enjoy a beautiful furniture display made by the Shakers (see Resources below). The Albany Institute of History and Art presents exhibits that highlight Albany's history in both culture and art. It also features an extensive collection of Egyptian art.
