Step 1
Do comparison shopping. Most wedding florists now have a Website. You can read feedback and see samples on these Websites. Find the perfect florist by weeding out the ones that aren't so stellar.
-
Step 2
Talk to other brides. Some of the best florist referrals can come through word of mouth. Ask friends and co-workers who have recently gotten married to share florist recommendations with you. Ask about which specific aspects of the florists that are the best. Get the low down on information regarding price, style and personality. It is best to talk to recent brides with your taste and sensibilities.
-
Step 3
Ask your vendors. Wedding industry vendors--such as wedding coordinators, caterers and photographers--are often happy to suggest florists. Because their reputation would then be on the line, they are not likely to steer you in the wrong direction. In working with you on your wedding, they already have an idea of what you want so the recommendation may be personalized.
-
Step 4
Attend a bridal show in your city or community. Many local florists will attend. They'll show sample arrangements and pictures of previous work. You will also get a chance to speak with individual florists about their cost, style and experience. You'll get a sense of how their work may fit with your vision.
-
Step 5
Let your fingers and car do the walking! Looking through yellow pages to find florists off the beaten path. Drive to check them out. That is often the best way to come across that perfect florist.
-
Step 6
Consider the cost. Know your budget before you meet with a florist. You wouldn't want to get your heart set on a certain florist, only to find out that he or she is out of your price range. And while cost is not necessary indicative of the end result, be wary of fees that seem to good to be true. Also ask about costs for set up, transporation or supplies that might not be included in the the initial quote.
-
Step 7
Ask questions. Find out how many weddings the florist will commit to in a day, what types of flowers are in season, less expensive floral alternatives, the florist's experience with your venue, his or her general design aesthetic and fee/payment structure. Also ask for recommendations from previous clients.
-
Step 8
Get a quote. Ask your short list of florists for a quote based on your wedding date, desired flowers and number of arrangements. Review the quote and determine how well the florist captured your vision, how comfortable you felt with him or her and whether or not it suits your budget. Choose the one the best meets your criteria.
