  1. Step 1

Find holiday decorations to create a festive atmosphere both inside as well as outside of your home. For example, if the holiday is Christmas that you are celebrating, string blinking or stationery Christmas lights inside and outside of the home. You may also want to hang stockings from your fireplace if you have one, or from your wall with push pins if you do not. Further, you may want to use canned aerosol snow to spray frothy Christmas scenes on your windows. The fake snow is easy to clean and comes off quickly.

  2. Step 2

Prepare holiday goodies that are traditionally fixed around the holidays. Cookies, cakes, eggnog are all tasty possibilities. You may also want to put on some cinnamon or pine scented potpourri on the stove to give off the aroma of the holidays. Candles with the winter scents are also effective as well.

  3. Step 3

Play holiday music to put your household in the mood for the holidays. Song always puts people in a cheerful mood.

  4. Step 4

Build a roaring fire if you have a fireplace. If you do not, gather your family, friends or neighbors in an area of your home for some hot cocoa and homemade baked goodies. Begin a story circle of your favorite holiday memories.
