Things You'll Need:
- Mod Podge decoupage medium Wooden cutout shapes Wood gel stain Small artist brushes Assorted Christmas wrapping paper Vinyl table cloth Scissors Ribbon Blue spruce tree Flocking snow Gold foil icicles
-
Step 1
Place a vinyl table cloth on the kitchen table and lay out all decoupage materials within easy reach of all crafters. A vinyl cloth is preferable to newspaper as decoupaging can be very sticky, and news print could end up on an ornament.
-
Step 2
Let each person look over the Christmas wrapping paper to get an idea of what and where they wish to cut for their ornament. The more colorful the paper, the more dramatic the ornaments will stand out.
-
Step 3
Empty bag of wooden cut outs into plastic bowl and pass around the table, letting each one choose the shape they want to decoupage.
-
Step 1
Lay flat a chosen area of wrapping paper and draw off shape using the wooden cutouts to trace by. Make sure to cut two pieces for the front and back of wooden cutout; they can be the same image or a different one.
-
Step 2
Using the fingers, apply the Mod Podge decoupage medium to the center of the image and position it on the wooden cutout.
Smooth the medium from the center to the edges, pressing away bubbles as you go. -
Step 3
Cut and apply ribbon to hole of decoupaged wooden ornament and hang on a line to dry.
-
Step 4
Repeat process on opposite side of ornament when its dry. Hang to dry when done.
-
Step 5
Take the brushes and brush on the wood gel stain on one side, hang to dry, then apply gel to other side. Again, hang to dry. This special touch adds an antique look to the ornament, giving it a Victorian look.
-
Step 1
Set up the blue spruce Christmas tree and wrap the blue string lights tastefully from top to bottom.
-
Step 2
Give each person a can of flocking snow. The tallest person should spray the top of the tree, while the smaller ones the bottom. Be certain you have purchased enough cans that the tree will look as if the sky had dumped a ton of snow on it.
-
Step 3
Take a damp cloth and wipe off snow from each bulb so the blue lights will shine without hindrance. Give the flocking time to dry.
-
Step 4
Take the decoupaged ornaments and let each person hang their creations on the tree. If you need more, make more each day, even right up to Christmas Eve.
-
Step 5
Pass out the gold foil icicles and let each one hang them on the tree. Discourage throwing them on the tree as they end up in an ugly, tangled mess. They must be hung straight across the branch to get the right effect.
