How to Make a Country Gift Basket
Country gift baskets are popular and inexpensive to make. The best way to create your basket is to arrange it around items that are either homespun or rustic. Country people and the country-curious will welcome vintage country decor and primitive knickknacks. If you have the talent to make beautiful things, this is the time to show it off. You will also save a fortune on overpriced and undersized store-bought country gift baskets.

1
Find a rustic basket made from willow or another natural material. Use cloth with a gingham, plaid or floral print to line the inside. To save money, use an old tablecloth, dress, handkerchief or quilt for the basket lining.
-
2
Make some homemade goodies to go inside the basket. For example, cook up a batch of cookies, muffins, miniature pies or cinnamon buns. If you know about canning, consider adding some homemade preserves to the basket. Place a decorative piece of cloth over the top of the mason jar after canning is complete. Otherwise, purchase an inexpensive jar of preserves to include in the basket.

Add some pancake mix in several flavors such as buttermilk, apple cinnamon, blueberry and peach. Also include some maple or fruit flavored syrup, coffee and tea with the basket. Be sure to get everything in small, decorative packages that will fit easily inside the basket you have chosen.

Add some rustic decor items to the basket. See if you can find some inexpensive, small and attractive items at your local antique shop. Look especially for homespun items such as rustic miniature picture frames and small primitive figures such as roosters, geese, angels and bears. If you craft often, include a few handmade items.

5
Coordinate your gift basket on a specific country theme. Popular themes include apple and peach orchard and maple syrup. You can also arrange your theme around a geographical area. For example, if you or your recipient live in Montana, consider arranging the basket around the western meadowlark, the grizzly bear, the ponderosa pine, montana agate and the bitterroot flower.

Add some attractive and pleasantly scented candles or soaps. Look for pleasing and rustic scents like apple cinnamon pie, balsam fir, banana nut bread, cherry blossom, gardenia and pumpkin spice. Keep the candles small to keep your costs down and ensure that everything will fit inside the basket. If you make candles and soap from scratch, be sure to include some of your best handiwork.

7
Arrange all the items in an attractive pattern inside the basket. For best results, separate the food items from the candles and soaps with a bit of decorative cloth or tissue paper.
