Instructions

    • 1

Make paper mache paste by mixing 1 part flour with 4 parts water. Boil for about 3 or 4 minutes, stirring constantly. Add a few tablespoons of salt to prevent mold. Let cool for about a half hour or until you can work with it.

    • 2

Form paper into a heart shape or you can use an empty heart shaped box. Using the newspaper you will need to use masking tape to help you hold the shape. If you use an empty box make sure all the edges are square.

    • 3

Tear or cut newspaper into 1-by-3 inch strips. Dip the strips of paper into the paste and place on the heart. Don't worry if it's not real smooth. Cover the entire heart with two coats. Allow it to dry overnight (it may take longer if you live in a humid area). Put on a third coat. Take your sponge and put some paste on it. Dab it onto the heart to make it look fluffy. Let dry overnight again.

Paint the entire heart red. Allow the paint to dry and then paint " I LOVE YOU" across it in white. You can add embellishments if you want to decorate it further. If you want to hang it on a string, use a molly fastener; to hang on a wall, glue a picture holder to the back; or just display on a shelf.
