How to Make a Christmas Doormat

All regular decorations have to be replaced with Christmas decorations at Christmas time. There's so much shopping to do at this time of year that making your decorations is much more fun than buying them. This doormat is easy to make and it only takes about an hour. Make sure you buy a few plain mats because you're going to like it so much, you'll want one for all of your doors. Does this Spark an idea?

      Draw a Christmas tree in the center of the mat with a piece of chalk. Draw a star on the top and decide how you want to paint on the garland. Paint in the tree and the star. Let the paint dry. Then paint on the garland and Christmas balls. Paint on a trunk and a tree skirt.

      At the top paint on "MERRY CHRISTMAS." Leave room for a border. Use a cotton ball or a rag and dab sparkly paint on around the outside of the mat. It will look like garland.

      Fill in the rest of the mat by painting on gift boxes with bows. Make them different colors and use various colors for the look of ribbon and bows. Let all the paint dry overnight before using the mat.
