This recipe is perfect for autumn. The canning process means that you will be eating apple butter well into the winter. Try it on waffles and pancakes. Use it on a cool morning, warmed up on a scone. There are plenty of uses for this versatile dish.

From Quick Guide: Waffles
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 lbs Medium-sized apples 3 1/2 cups of Sugar 1/2 tbsp Cinnamon 1/4 tsp Ginger 1/2 tsp Cloves Lemon juice Food mill 4 Sterilized jars with rings and lids
  1. Step 1

Cut and quarter your apples. Fill a large pot with apples and add one cup of water.

  2. Step 2

Boil your apples stirring occasionally until they are soft and have cooked down. This will take about an hour.

  3. Step 3

Run your softened apples through your food mill to strain out the seeds, stems, and peels. Now, your applesauce is ready to become apple butter.

  4. Step 4

Return your applesauce to the stove top using a wide pot. Add in the rest of your ingredients. Heat to boiling, constantly stirring the mixture. Boil for one hour or until the apple butter is thick and creamy.

  5. Step 5

Divide into heated, sterilized jars and proceed with a fifteen-minute hot water bath to seal your jars. The apple butter will now keep fresh all through the winter so that you can enjoy the fruits of harvest season all year.
