Colorado is widely known as a major U.S. skiing destination. The state has some of the most famous slopes in the world. Surprisingly, however, only one company provides heli-ski trips in Colorado. If you want to take skiing to the next level through untracked powder, here are some tips to have an incredible heli-skiing adventure.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ski equipment Outerwear Reservations
  1. Step 1

Decide what part of Colorado that you'd like to visit. Helitrax, located in Telluride, is the only heli-ski operation in Colorado. Helitrax also offers charter flight packages from other popular ski towns in Colorado including Vail, Aspen and Steamboat. Contact Helitrax for specific pricing.

  2. Step 2

Decide what type of package you'd like. Helitrax offers single-day or multi-day private and custom tours. Each day tour includes six guided runs. Additional runs can be purchased for a per-run fee.

  3. Step 3

To book your trip, download a form via Helitrax's website and email it to powder@helitrax.net. Call 866.HELI.SKI with any questions. Helitrax works with each customer to provide a customized heli-skiing experience.

  4. Step 4

When filling out the form, be sure to be honest about your ability level, so that Helitrax can plan appropriately. Heli-skiing is available for strong intermediate, advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders. Be sure that you're competent within the ability level you choose.

  5. Step 5

Book reservations early. Helitrax has 12 seats available every day, so seating is very limited. Make sure to reserve your trip ahead of time. A 50 percent deposit is required to reserve and is refundable if the trip is cancelled due to weather.

  6. Step 6

Show up for your trip early. You are required to remain available until noon on the day of your scheduled trip, in case weather delays your trip.

Tips & Warnings
  • A heli-ski trip includes lunch, snacks, drinks, sunscreen, ski/snowboard rental and avalanche beacon rental. Snow and inclement weather may result in cancellation. Cancelled trips can be rescheduled for a day during the same season.
  • Heli-skiing is inherently dangerous. Work closely with guides to determine your ability and follow all instructions closely. Changes in your booking may result in $100 fee or loss of your deposit. Once your trip is started, you will not be refunded for a cancelled or shortened trip.
