How to Visit Alvethorpe Park, PA

Named after Lessing Rosenwald, who donated his estate, Alverthorpe Manor, to Abington Township, the park bearing his name is for Township residents only--a photo ID or a membership card is required for entrance. However, residents can bring guests to enjoy the many facilities and activities the park has to offer.

      Travel to the park, located on Jenkintown Road and Forrest Avenue. Play 3-par golf. There are fees for members and guests, and annual schedules are available online or in the main office (see Resources below). An 18-hole miniature golf course is available for members and guests.

      Bring small children (under 5) to the kiddie pool located near the picnic table area. The area can also be reserved for birthday parties and family events. The picnic area is available for less than 200 people. The pool is open during summer months. There are also two playground areas located near the pool.

      Play tennis on the courts or get a fishing permit (available in January) to fish in the stocked ponds. Walk or bike around the perimeter path. Camping is available by registering in the control building.

      Visit Alverthorpe Manor, located on the Meetinghouse Road side of the square that contains the park. You can purchase discount theater, movie and theme park tickets in the main office. Pool passes and other residential matters are handled in the Manor for residents.

      Visit Abington Art Center and Settlement Music School, both attached to Alverthorpe Manor. No residency requirement is necessary to enroll in classes. The Art Center's open grounds a strewn with environmental sculptures, and the center offers workshops, classes and lots of free (or minimal fee) events for families throughout the year. Settlement Music School offers private and group music instruction to children and adults.

Tips & Warnings

  • Alverthorpe Park also offers community and family events throughout the year, such as egg hunts during Easter. There is plenty of free parking available throughout the park.
