How to View Screen Saver Photos on a Macintosh

All new Mac computers come with several preset screen savers. When selected, these screen saver options rotate through a series of Apple images. However, users cannot set any of these images as their desktop pictures, because the files are stored in a separate location. This article explains how to retrieve the screen saver images in order to use them as desktop pictures.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mac running OS X 10.5 or later
  1. Step 1

    Open a new Finder window by clicking the Finder icon in the dock.

  2. Step 2

    Select the base level of your hard drive from the Devices menu on the left side of the Finder window.

  3. Step 3

    Navigate to System/Library/Screen Savers and select the screen saver you wish to view.

  4. Step 4

    Right-click on the desired screen saver and choose "Show Package Contents." A new Finder window will open.

  5. Step 5

    Navigate to Contents/Resources in the new window to find all of the images associated with the screen saver. These JPEG files can now be saved elsewhere and used as desktop pictures.
