Log furniture is a great addition to any room or yard and is simple to make. It's also a low-cost investment that will add to the value of your home or business.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Drafting paper Strap metal Extended table saw Power sander Wood glue Wood screws Wood stain

    Instructions

  1. Step 1

Draw a detailed plan of the furniture piece you wish to build. Include measurements of all sections. Add several views to the design so that the whole perspective of the piece can be seen.

  2. Step 2

Remove bark from the logs that you will use for the furniture. You can do this easily with a piece of strap metal.

  3. Step 3

Cut logs to the different lengths of the design using an extended table saw. Work slowly, trying to make for even and smooth cuts.

  4. Step 4

Use a power sander to sand the logs as desired. Round the edges of the logs to a large radius. Sand the outer surfaces of the logs.

  5. Step 5

Use wood glue and wood screws to attach the pieces of the design. Use wood filler to cover screw holes and prevent the heads from showing.

  6. Step 6

Give the glue several hours to dry before continuing.

  7. Step 7

Apply a wood stain that will complement the surroundings of the furniture. Go light on cracks and crevices and places on the logs that are more porous, as the stain will become much darker in those locations.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a stain that will protect against the weather if the furniture will be used outside.
  • Use caution when working around saws and other power tools or with toxic chemicals.
