Hunting With a Longbow

Hunting with a longbow takes hunters back into the past, to a time when survival was dependent on hunting prowess. Longbow hunting takes skill, patience and time. Not only is practice required to shoot accurately with a longbow, but the distance at which an archer can hit her mark is greatly reduced as well. This article outlines some hunting tips and assumes that the archer can hit a mark at or around 30 yards.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a game trail within the patch of woods in which you will be hunting. Trails are usually good places to hunt in the early mornings and evenings, as animals travel to and from feeding and bedding grounds.

    • 2

Locate a point along the trail that creates a natural bottle neck, forcing animals to pass through a specific spot. Stream crossings or areas of downed logs are good locations.

    • 3

Set up a ground blind within 15 yards of where you expect animals to cross. Ground blinds are very effective for long bows as they afford more space for the archer to draw undetected.

    • 4

Put out some attractant (which can be bought at any outdoor store) for the game you are interested in. Now sit and wait. All of your preparation will be tested as you wait out your game.

Tips & Warnings
