1
Designate the spot that you want to build the floating room. Make sure that the spot is both wide and long enough and well within the lot grid. Also take into consideration any objects around the designated spot such as pools, chairs and other buildings. Your sim will need to be able to comfortably access the floating room.

2
Select a column structure and place each column on your designated length and width measurements for your floating room. To access the column structures, click the "Build" icon on the control panel on the bottom left of the screen. Depending on your preferred height of the floating room, you can select either a single-story or multi-story column. Once you are finished placing your columns, they should create a single shape depending on the shape of your floating room.

3
Place flooring on top of the columns. You can choose from many different flooring options, such as stone, brick, wood, carpet and tile by clicking the flooring icon in the "Build" section. Once you've finished the flooring, delete the columns and you'll notice that the floor appears to be floating. You can border the floor off with structures of your choice, including walls or outdoor glass panels. You can also create a new upper floor if you prefer by duplicating Step 2.

4
Connect stairs to the floor of the floating room by selecting the stair icon in the "Build" section. You can add as many stairs as you like around the floating room, but keep in mind that your sim must be able to comfortably access the stairs from the ground, so be sure that the portion of the stairs connecting to the ground is in an open area. Stair railings are optional but can be added by clicking the rail icon in the "Stair" section. Once you've completed the flooring, walls and stairs for the floating room or house, you can then begin to build and decorate the interior.
