      Visit various open houses in your area at least a year before you begin the application process. This will give you an idea of the types of schools that best suit your needs.

      There are three types of entrance exams for Catholic high school: The High School Placement Test; the Cooperative Admissions Examination Program, which is required of students in New Jersey; and the Test for Admission into Catholic High Schools test, for students living in the diocese of Brookyn/Queens and the Archdiocese of New York.

      Your grade school principal will forward your documents to the appropriate testing facility. This documents include all academic transcripts, including grades from the first quarter of eighth grade. On the admissions card included in the application packet, write your top three high school choices.

      Once the results of the exam have been released, you will be notified in February by the schools you listed. If you are interested in applying for a scholarship, you may need to take an additional test. Many Catholic high schools conduct interviews and look for references and other evidence that you are worthy of receiving an award.

Tips & Warnings

  • When applying for a scholarship, fill out the financial aid forms as well. Even though your parents' income may exceed what is required of those receiving financial aid, the paperwork is necessary to expedite the scholarship process. Don't forget to include the application fee

  • Most Catholic high schools are not co-educational institutions.
