In Apple's Mac OS X operating system, users launch different applications and files from a part of the desktop known as the Dock. By default, the Dock appears at the bottom of your display and shows icons for the most popular Mac applications. You can rearrange these icons and even add new ones, and in addition, you can adjust the size of the Dock depending on how much space you want it to take up on your screen. This article explains how to change the Dock size from the "System Preferences" menu.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mac running OS X 10.5 or later
  1. Step 1

Log on to your computer with the account for which you wish to customize the Dock.

  2. Step 2

Open "System Preferences" by clicking on the icon in the Dock.

  3. Step 3

Choose the "Dock" control panel from underneath the "Personal" category.

  4. Step 4

Move the slider bar in the "Size" field to the left or right to adjust the size of the Dock. Moving the bar to the left makes the Dock smaller, while moving the bar to the right makes it bigger.

  5. Step 5

Choose either the left, bottom or right buttons to determine where your dock will be displayed on the screen.
