How to Fold Letters

Folding a full size page into a small letter size envelope is easy to do, but takes a little practice to get the folds just right. What once was a skill taught in school has in recent years been forgotten and replaced with the proper way to send electronic mail. Folding a letter without crumbling it takes care and a small amount of effort to accomplish.

Things You'll Need

• 8 x11" piece of paper Letter size envelope

Instructions

1. Position the paper face up, in a vertical position.

2. Take the top one-third of the paper and bring it halfway down the page.

3. Refold the folded edge. A small section of the paper will not be included in the folding process.

4. Close the fold. Position the folded paper so that the straight bottom edge is at the top. Fold the straight edge of the paper down to overlap the folded letter.

5. Fold from the side. From the side of the folded paper, fold one-third inward and press down on the crease to ensure that the shape will hold securely.

Tips & Warnings

• If you make a mistake in the folding process, simply flatten out the page, removing any signs of an uneven fold.
