Step 1
Make your guest list. Consider who you want to invite. It could be a family-only gathering. Perhaps you want a group of friends only. It could even be a kids caroling party for your children and their friends.
-
Step 2
Decide what day and time you want to do the party. It could be in the evening on a weeknight or over the weekend. If going to a retirement center or nursing home, be sure to check with the manager on the best time to come by.
-
Step 3
Write invitations to send out to the people on your guest list. Either buy ready-made invitations with a Christmas theme or make your own on the computer. Be sure to include the date, time and location.
-
Step 4
Plan where you want to go caroling. You might stay in your own neighborhood, go to a local retirement center or drive to various people's houses that you know.
-
Step 5
Decide on the songs you want to sing. Pick about eight to 10 songs that most everyone knows. Make copies of the songs on paper. Print up enough copies for each person to have one. Only sing about four or five songs per house and rotate the songs you sing. If you are singing at a retirement center or nursing home, you could sing all the songs you chose.
-
Step 6
Decide what types of snacks and drinks you will have available after the caroling. Provide simple snacks such as cheese and crackers, fruit or vegetable tray, fondue, cookies and other desserts that can be prepared ahead of time and will keep while you are out caroling. Decide if you want everyone to bring a favorite snack food or whether you will provide everything. Decide on drinks ahead of time such as cocoa, hot or cold apple cider, tea and coffee or a punch. Remember, everyone will be cold after caroling, so a hot drink will be welcomed.
-
Step 7
Plan any music, games or activities that you may wish to have at the party. Maybe you'll play some Christmas music in the background and everyone will just sit and visit. Have games and activities available if there are children present. Have a movie night complete with a fun Christmas movie, popcorn and hot chocolate.
