Deciding to Include a Wedding Favor

  1. Step 1

Weddings are happy, yet tedious, events to plan. One must decide everything from the theme, color scheme, bridal party size, bridal party attire, menus and reception choice. One selection that may be overlooked is the wedding favor. Many are decorative, but personalized to the taste of the bride and groom. A wedding favor can be a simple item that is given to an attendant, or a wedding guest, and can exist on its own or add to an existing wedding theme. When choosing whether or not to include a wedding favor, one must first decide the type of wedding one wishes to have. The level of formality and the budget will determine what one can afford, which gives way to what is appropriate and what is not for all events leading to and including the impending ceremony.

  2. Which Kind of Favor Should Be Included?

  3. Step 1

Choose your wedding style. As you plan your wedding, you may wish to include a number of personal touches. The wedding favor helps to personalize your event. There are more formal favors, such as a framed photograph of the bride and groom, or random keepsakes such as key chains, candles and candy containers. Favors may also vary according to the season and the level of formality. Wedding favor choices are endless, so once the other details have been made, choose a favor or favors to compliment your event.

  4. How Many Favors Should Be Purchased?

  5. Step 1

A wedding favor can add a personal touch to your wedding. Decide whether or not you wish to include them for your wedding party or for those attending the wedding events as a whole. There are favors for those attending the bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, bachelor and bachelorette parties and the wedding and reception. Many choose to include more than one. But be careful when choosing to do so at the same event, because overloading the wedding design with random knickknacks can drive down the elegance level. Also, consider your budget, as many wedding favors--the bulk item favors in particular--have a per item cost. That means that many items are between $1 and $3 each to reproduce. If you have a guest list of 100 or more, this can add substantially to your budget.

  6. Finalizing Your Choices

  7. Step 1

Re-examine your budget. In deciding which favor(s) to include, remember that many, depending on your tastes, can be made. Examine the types of favors you wish to include and then browse your local arts and crafts store for the materials. In some cases, you may be able to save money, but in other cases, you will not. For this reason, be certain to make your wedding favor choices early on, to give yourself and any assistants time to make them from scratch. If they don't turn out as initially hoped, or if you simply don't have the time to complete the projects, beginning early will also allow you to order professionally made favors and allow for delivery. Remember, wedding favors are meant to personalize your wedding events, and the memorable moments in between. A favor can add to your theme or stand alone as a charming keepsake your guests can appreciate and have forever.
