Decorate With Vintage Christmas Balls

If you want to create an elegant and timeless look to your holiday décor this year, consider all the ways you can incorporate vintage (or vintage-inspired) glass ball ornaments throughout your home. If you don't have a collection of glass ball ornaments, they are easy to find online or at auctions, yard sales or thrift shops. Even heirloom ornaments can be both highlighted and protected in your holiday décor with the suggestions listed here.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Collection of glass ball ornaments Large glass bowl or cake stand Martini, champagne or wine glass(es) Apothecary jar, cloche, glass terrarium Angel hair, feather boa and/or loose glitter snow Metallic silk ribbon Florist or craft wire strung with crystal or pearlized beads Loose feathers, cotton balls and/or sand
  1. Step 1

Place an arrangement of monochromatic or multicolored glass ball ornaments in an elegant glass bowl. Choose a bowl with etching, cut glass or one with a pedestal base for extra glamor.

  2. Step 2

Display ball ornaments on a cake stand covered with artificial glitter snow or angel hair .

  3. Step 3

Arrange 3 to 10 glass ball ornaments along a mantle covered with angel hair, a white feather boa or loose glitter snow to create a brilliant winter scene.

  4. Step 4

Place several smaller or one favorite regular-sized ball ornament in a martini, champagne or wine glass. Also, consider highlighting several glasses (either all of the same kind or varying in height or style) to add even more of an impact.

  5. Step 5

Display a collection of vintage glass balls in an apothecary jar, a cloche or a glass terrarium. Any of these vessels are lidded, so there is more protection for your delicate ornaments. You could also place loose feathers, cotton balls or sand inside before layering the balls to create a more softened landing and create a holiday themed mood in the display.

  6. Step 6

String some glass ball ornaments on silk ribbon to create a garland for either hanging on a Christmas tree or dangling as a swag from a mantel or buffet/hutch. Be sure to either tie buffering knots between each ball or alternate the glass balls with silk thread-wrapped balls. This will keep the glass ornaments from clanging together and shattering.

  7. Step 7

Hook glass ball ornaments from either metallic silk ribbon or wire strung with crystal or pearlized beads. Hang one cherished ornament from the center of a chandelier or one from each arm of the fixture.

  8. Step 8

Decorate one small Christmas tree with only glass ball ornaments. Consider placing the miniature tree on a plant stand to give it added height, and drape a tree skirt or festive tablecloth underneath the tree.
