Save

Having the Canon PIXMA MP970 All-in-One Inkjet Printer is like having a photo shop in your home. The printer's advanced technology allows both those with experience and novices to preview, scan, copy and print documents and photographs. Color photos look great at 9600 by 2400 color dpi while the printer's seven individual ink tanks produce stunningly life-like photos. Another advantage of the individual ink tank system is the ability to replace only those tanks that are empty.

Things You'll Need

  • Canon MP970 printer Compatible replacement CLI-8 ink tanks Plastic bag
  • Ensure the printer's power cable is plugged into a working electrical outlet. Press the ON/OFF button located in the upper left hand corner of the operations panel to turn the power on.

  • Press the Home button on the control panel. The Home screen will be displayed on the LCD panel. Press the left Function button to display the Current Ink Levels Screen. If a yellow dot with an exclamation mark is displayed one or more ink tanks is low on ink. Replacement is not necessary, but it is recommended that you have a replacement tank on hand. If a red dot with a white X is displayed one or more ink tanks may have run out of ink. These tanks need to be replaced.

  • Open the paper output tray. Lift the printer cover to its fully opened position. Wait while the print head holder moves to the center.

  • Note the ink tanks with fast flashing ink level indicator lamps. These are the tanks that need to be replaced. Press the tab on the corresponding ink tank and lift it straight up to remove it from the printer. Place the empty ink tank in a plastic bag and set aside for proper disposal or recycling.

  • Remove the replacement ink tank from its packaging. Remove the protective film from the ink tank. Remove the protective cap from the bottom of the ink tank.

  • Insert the ink tank into the empty slot. Press down on the tank until it snaps into place. Insure the ink level indicator lamp lights and glows red. Repeat steps 4, 5 and 6 for each additional empty ink tank.

  • Lower the printer cover to its fully closed position. Wait while the print head holder moves to the right. Wait for the MP970 to run an automatic print head cleaning process before attempting to print.

Tips & Warnings

  • The MP970 will display an error message on the LCD when a tank runs out of ink. An error message will also display on the computer monitor if you are printing from your computer. Replace empty ink tanks with new ink tanks. Using partially filled ink tanks as replacements can cause clogs. Replace ink tanks that have been installed for more than six months. If the printer cover is open for more than 10 minutes, the print head holder will move back to the right hand side of the printer. Close the cover and reopen to continue replacing the ink tank. Completely replace each ink tank before removing the next one.
  • The MP970 will not print if an ink tank is installed in the wrong position. Use only the specified replacement ink tank. Do not refill the ink tanks. Do not leave the MP970 with an empty ink tank slot. Always replace each ink tank as soon as you remove them. Do not touch any metallic parts inside the printer. Do not touch the electrical contacts on the ink tank.
