How to Post Photo Journal Entries Using LiveJournal ScrapBook

In the early days of LiveJournal, you had to store pictures on your own website or use a photo sharing service. Posting a journal entry with pictures involved typing up the html and links or using an LJ client to upload photos for each post. With LiveJournal ScrapBook, you can store photos and create galleries right on LJ and use them to make any size photo posts without any complex html or lengthy editing.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to your LiveJournal account (see link in Resources). Select "ScrapBook," then "Upload Pictures" from the LiveJournal toolbar. Make a new gallery and upload pictures for your LiveJournal photo post. See Tips section for more information.

    • 2

Choose the gallery name from the threaded menu at the top of the screen, above your recently uploaded photos. Proceed to Step 4. For a different gallery, select "Manage Galleries" from the "ScrapBook" entry on the LiveJournal toolbar.

    • 3

Click on the name of the gallery from which you want to post photos.

    • 4

Select the "Pictures" link on the left side of your gallery page.

    • 5

Change the order of the photos using the arrow keys below each picture. Clicking the arrow will move the photo one slot over, switching places with the photo already there. Select "Save Positions" to lock in the order.

    • 6

Check the boxes to select the photos you want in your picture post. Use the buttons above the photos to "Select All" or "Invert Selection." When finished, choose the button beneath titled "Post Selected Photos to Journal."

    • 7

Make style choices for your photo post. Choose the number of columns, average picture size, and where you want text to appear in relation to the photos. A sample image gives you an idea of what the post will look like. Check the box if you want a border around your photos.

    • 8

Add descriptive titles and text to explain your photos. Leave the sections blank if you want the photos to stand alone.

    • 9

Click the button "Continue (change entry options)" when you have completed all text and style choices.

    • 10

Edit the photo post. Add a subject line, change your icon, and select other posting options. You may want to add some text above to avoid overloading your friends list with a large picture post.

    • 11

Hit the "Preview" button to see what your finished post will look like. Close the window to return to editing. When finished, click the "Post to..." button at the bottom.

    • 12

Choose one of the links to view your post or journal on the "Post an Entry" page.

    • 13

Examine the finished post. If you want to make changes, click the "Edit Entry" link at the bottom. You can also add tags, leave a first comment, or select other options from the linked list.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you get to the edit page and don't like what you see, hit the browser back button to return to the photo style and text page to try again. In the edit phase, hit the return key after text to add one line of separation between the text and photos.

  • If you have one of the older "basic" accounts, free but with no ads, you will not have access to the ScrapBook option. You need to upgrade to a "plus," "paid," or "permanent" account.
