Instructions

    • 1

Go to Microsoft office online and download a postcard template that will work with your blank postcards. Simply type in "Postcard" in the Template area, and select a page that is basically divided into four parts. You can also set up the page manually by following the postcard manufacturer's instructions.

    • 2

Create the front of your postcard first. If you are using a photo of your family or the house itself, click on "Insert," "From File," and then select your images. You might also select a local landmark for the front of your postcard. For example, if you moved to Louisville, Kentucky, you might place a photo of Churchill Downs on your postcard.

    • 3

Add some text to the front of the card. Click on "Insert," "Text Box," and then click on where you want your text to be located on the postcard. For the front, simply state something like, "We've Moved." Copy and paste to the other three postcards.

    • 4

Print the front of your postcards. Print all the fronts you need at once to save time and effort. Allow to dry and then put aside to print the backs. Do not separate.

    • 5

Save your card fronts and then delete the contents. Afterwards, initiate a Save As file using the name "Postcard Backs" so that you have two separate files for your postcards.

    • 6

Create a new text box half the size of the postcard to leave room for addresses and postage. Go to "Insert" and "Text Box" to draw your new postcard.

    • 7

Type in all the information you need to let people know. Include your name, new address, new phone number and email addresses.

    • 8

Center and format the information as you like. Use a nice crisp font so that it is easily readable. Don't use fancy fonts as they are often difficult to read.

    • 9

Add a small graphic to enhance the back. You can use a small image of your family, or some simple seasonal clip art. Copy and paste your first card onto the remaining three spaces.

    • 10

Test your set up by printing out a sheet of backs to see which direction you need to feed your card fronts through. Once you have that determined, go ahead and print the backs of your postcards.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make a collage by inserting several images of your home and family on the front of the card. Include a close up of your new address. Using local landmarks on your postcard is especially nice if you are moving out of state. This is a great way to show your pride in your new location. Be sure to leave a space on the back of the card for the stamp.

  • Don't print directly on the postcard paper without doing a test sheet first. Set ups are sometimes just a bit off, so compare your printed draft and then make changes if necessary.
