Using Photoshop filters, you can easily render burning planets for backgrounds in gaming, wallpapers and many other things. This is quite a short process that requires almost no hands-on editing. If you can change filter settings, you can create the required effects for your rendered planet.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Adobe Photoshop 5+ Planet-maker Photoshop filter Flaming Photoshop filter Starry background Photoshop filter (optional)
  1. Step 1

Install a planet-maker filter for photoshop. Some available options are lunar cell and planet OP. Also, find a flaming filter and, if desired, find a filter for creating starry backgrounds. You can install these by downloading the filters and then extracting them to the Adobe plug-ins folder. Then restart photoshop.

  2. Step 2

Use the filter and create a planet as desired. If you are looking for a realistic touch, apply atmospheric effects that will compliment the fire that will be surrounding the planet.

  3. Step 3

Create a background layer and make a starry background. You can also use a filter for this if you desire.

  4. Step 4

Navigate back to the planet's layer and use your flaming filter. Change settings on the filter to high-res and make sure that the filter is set for covering the layer. You want the fire to look as if it is enveloping the planet, and not burning behind it.

  5. Step 5

Use the image/attributes tools in the file menu to adjust colors and lightness in the planet layer as desired. Also, adjust the blur on the flame as you wish.

Tips & Warnings
  • Paying for nice filters can make a big difference in the final quality of your render.
  • Always use your own work when making publishable content.
