How to handle angry friends, coworkers, clients and strangers.

Things You'll Need:

  • Your wits
  1. Step 1

STAY CALM. If you’re dealing with an angry or belligerent person, don’t get pulled into their state of mind.

  2. Step 2

DON’T ARGUE. Most people are combative and they want a fight, either verbally or physically. Don’t even go there. Make sure you maintain a posture that isn’t going to challenge the person. At the same time, you don’t want them to think you’re a pushover either.

  3. Step 3

HEAR THEM OUT. Something started the angry person off. Let them get their issues off their chest. You have a much better chance of solving the problem if you let them tell you what the problem is. If they are too out-of-line, tell them you’re willing to hear them out but they need to maintain professionalism.

  4. Step 4

SOLVE THE PROBLEM ON THE SPOT. All the scientific data supports keeping customers longer by solving problems on the spot. Even if the customer is out-of-line, you win the battle but lose the war if they leave angry.
