How to Roast Pumpkin Seeds

After you carve that jack-o-lantern or make your pumpkin pie, don't throw away the seeds!!! Pumpkin seeds are make a nutrious yummy snack. Pumpkin seeds, also known as pepitas and they are an excellent source of iron and zinc as well as a good source of protein, magnesium, manganese,phosphorus and phytosterols and are even said to lower cholesterol. One gram of pumpkin seed protein contains as much tryptophan as a full glass of milk so have a few seeds and slice of turkey and you'll sleep right through the afternoon.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pumpkin Seeds from One Pumpkin
  • Cookie Sheet
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter or vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar, or more, to taste
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon allspice
  1. Step 1

    Remove Pumpkin Seeds from Pumpkin

  2. Step 2

    Remove Strings and Pumpkin Material from Seeds and pat down seeds to remove any remaining pumpkin.

  3. Step 3

    Melt butter, sugar and spices in a skillet over low heat.

  4. Step 4

    Toss seeds with the butter, sugar, and spices.

  5. Step 5

    Spread coated seeds in a shallow baking sheet and put in over set at 325 degrees.

  6. Step 6

    After 10 minutes, stir and turn seeds then return to oven.

  7. Step 7

    Cook an additional 10 minutes or until toasted and dry.

  8. Step 8

    Let cool and store in an air-tight container to enjoy any time.

Tips & Warnings
  • Line your baking sheet with nonstick foil to make cleanup easier
  • Toasted seeds may feel cool to the touch but still be hot on the inside to all your seeds to thoroughly cool before tasting.
