Things You'll Need:
- Treats
- Patience
- Dog
- Time
-
Step 1
Face your dog. Start in an area with little to no distraction to start. Have a dog delicious treat ready.
-
Step 2
With your dog standing in front of you, hold the yummy treat to the nose. Let him/her sniff but not have the treat.
-
Step 3
Raise the treat in your hand over your dogs nose in a line straight to the tail. Your hand should be in a form similar to if you were holding water in a cupped hand.
-
Step 4
Your dog may take a step back. This is normal. When he or she sits is when you deliver the treat and praise.
-
Step 5
Repeat several times throughout the day. Give treats until your dog consistently sits. Then use intermittently which means give sometimes but not every time. Always remember praise. Use of word sit is really immaterial. Your hand movement is the ticket.
