Learn how to enjoy the health benefits of pomegranates; a superfruit!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1
    Wash and Cut
     
    Wash and Cut

    This is the fastest way to prepare and enjoy the health benefits of pomegranates. Most of these steps should be done over a kitchen sink with a bowl under the fruit in the sink. First wash the fruit with mild soap and rinse well. Next cut off the flowery top. (see image)

  2. Step 2
    Cut Half Then Into Quarters
     
    Cut Half Then Into Quarters

    Cut the fruit in half and then in quarters. (see image)

  3. Step 3
    Invert Then Push
     
    Invert Then Push

    Take each piece and with your thumbs push to invert fruit (see images)

  4. Step 4
    Hold Loosely
     
    Hold Loosely

    Hold the piece over the bowl in your non-dominant hand with fingers barely open to allow fruit to fall through. (see image)

  5. Step 5
    Tap With Knife Handle
     
    Tap With Knife Handle

    Begin tapping the back of the fruit with the knife handle. This will result in the fruit kernels separating and falling through your fingers into the bowl below. (see image)

  6. Step 6
    Remove Skin
     
    Remove Skin

    Spend a little time picking out the white parts of the fruit that you probably don't need to eat (although you can if you need the fiber). (see image)

Tips & Warnings
  • After you're done, place the fruit bowl in the refrigerator (they taste much better) or eat them asap if you can't wait.
  • You can add salt or sugar depending on your taste buds.
  • If you want the fruit juice you can chew the fruit and spit out the pulp.
  • Wear dark clothing because you will probably get splashed with dark red fruit juice (can stain).
  • Remove items you don't want splashed with juice from around the sink area.
  • Use towel to wipe your sink and counter top to prevent staining.

on 9/9/2009 I love pomegranate's and prepare them the way you show in this article... best in a bowl with a tad bit of salt but not good for the blood pressure that way... sigh

on 2/26/2009 a different way of consuming them than I am used to. Sadly it does not seem less messy. Some inventor will have to come up with a home juicer for pomegranate.
