Things You'll Need:
- A good night's sleep the night before!
-
Step 1
Early preparations include getting a complete guest list count with good bags prepared with the best party favors girls love. Include lip gloss, jewelry, sweet treats, and other ideas your daughter has suggested. Have the guests arrive at 6 pm and both you and your daughter greet each guest and their parent at the door in attempt to ease the transition for the parents whom haven't met you yet! In the invitations, make the time of the party clear, 6 pm to 10 am the next morning is sufficient. Include that each girl bring a sleeping bag and favorite pjs.
-
Step 2
After all the girls have arrived, have them come up to the preset table for dinner (pizza, sub sandwiches, barbecue, or tacos are favorites.) Include a couple different brands of chips or pretzels for sides during dinner. Allow them to help themselves from the center of the table. While the girls are dining, state the ground rules of the party. Ground rules are 1. no gossiping about other girls who aren't in attendance and any other rules you may need to implement. Allow them to chat and giggle about their lives. If they are quiet, ask them a question about their likes or something silly about them that they can share with the rest of the group. Before you know it, you will not be able to get a word in edgewise! Do not rush them through dinner, as this time is well spent and it's important you keep them busy. However, when they are finishing up, set out sprinkles, candy bar pieces and frosting. Give each of them a plain cup cake to decorate and serve ice cream. This is a good time to sing "Happy Birthday." When the girls have finished the feasting, send them to the other room while you clean up and set up craft. You may suggest an "American Idol" contest, "Charades", a "dance off" or any other activities your daughter and her friends like. Balloons are a good back up, they can always find plenty ways to play with balloons! This is also a great time to open gifts and be sure to record what each child gave your daughter for later thank you cards.
-
Step 3
Craft is a fun time and girl love to do crafts. Decorating pillow cases or T shirts is a fun idea. Fabric paints and pillow cases can be found at some dollar stores or craft stores. Homemade lip gloss with Vaseline and cool aid is great too. Or you can do a baking craft like hard candies or caramel apples in the Fall. Whatever you choose, this is an important use of "time". After craft, send the girls outside for a game of flashlight tag or a flashlight scavenger hunt to allow them to burn their energy before movie time. Girls will love the thrill of being outside after dark!
-
Step 4
Movie Time! Have several movies to choose from, if the girls cannot decide, put them in a hat and draw the winner! Once the movie is started, no one will complain! Have the girls sleeping bags placed in a circle with their heads all in the center to avoid anyone being "left out." Lights out at 11 pm, but don't be surprised if they giggle until 2 am! Remember, it's a slumber party and the bed time rules are "ruled out!"
-
Step 5
When morning time arrives, serve plenty of pancakes and orange juice. Have the girls pre address envelopes for the gift thank you's your daughter will send out. Hand out goodie bags as each of the guests leave your home so they do not lose them while at the party!
