Garage sales can be a great way to find bargains for your home & closet. Unfortunately, they can also be a way to fill your home with junk. Do you always envy your friend that bought an end table for $.75? Here is how to garage sale successfully.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Set boundaries. Before you ever leave the house, make a plan. What do you need? How much are you willing to spend? Do you want an item that you can fix up or paint?

  2. Step 2

Be sure & take a few necessary items like a water bottle because you'll get thirsty. It also helps to have a tape measure & a truck or SUV to haul away your finds.

  3. Step 3

Find driving directions online to avoid a lot of confusion once you start finding sales.

  4. Step 4

Spend some time comparison shopping for the items that you want to purchase. Know about how much they are worth. This way you'll be able to tell if something is a bargain or if items are overpriced.

  5. Step 5

Start early. Most of the really good deals tend to be sold early in the morning.

  6. Step 6

Reign yourself in. There can be a huge temptation to buy everything in sight because it's one of a kind, or going fast. Take some time to remember what you actually need & if you really love it.

  7. Step 7

Barter. If you fall in love with something, don't be afraid to ask the seller to come down in price.

Tips & Warnings
  • Enjoy the expierence. The hunt is half off the fun. Take along a friend & your favorite CDs.
